my dog is 12 and just had a stroke she is 51 pounds and with her stroke she lost feeling of her back leg and keeps falling over, vet said she could gain all mobility back in 24 hours or 6 months and she may need some help with rehab, question is how do we help her do to the bath room when she has to squit down but keeps falling over? How to help your dog go to the bath room after a stroke?

towel or sheet around her abdomen by her hips, with you providing support by lifting and lowering the towel as needed.
Pooping is a bit trickier. I usually do the towel and then stablize them using my legs for the side to side wobbles... they adjust to you being ';right there'; while they go in about 2 days.
Here is a link to the lift and assist harnesses, which I would suggest you look into if it looks like recovery time is going to be longer, but at the least it gives you a visual of what I am trying to explain:

p.s. I hope your pup is doing better sooner than later! Good luck to you all!
just hold your dog at the sides and see wate s happend s good luck to you and your best friend
When my bonnie had her first stroke at 13, she had a slight balance problem, but she figured out herself to cope with it and going to the toilet, she needed help with a few things at first, but youd be amazed at how quickly they adapt to things like this.
They said she may not live much more than 6-12 months. But when she got to 18 years old (to the vets amazment) she had another stroke and she needed to be put to sleep this time, as she was just too old, and lost control of both back legs....even in the short time between her having a stroke and taking her to the vets she still manage to do her business with little problem.
Sorry to hear about this, its not a nice thing to have happen.
Good luck!
Years ago my Great Dane had a stroke. The vet did not recommend any medication and she fully recovered fairly quickly.
You could keep a harness on your dog to hold when she is urinating or defecating, or you could support her by slipping a belt or scarf under her back legs. Both of these items will also help to get her outside and with this support her confidence will improve.
Good Luck.
