A better one than toweling off from a sink in a public restroom, please. I've thought of gyms, but so far haven't found one in the vicinity of my vacations spots. In the states you can check for truck stops with showers. There is a fee, but its pretty minimal.

In Europe you can go to the train station and pay a few Euros for a shower. A swimming facility will haver showers but niot sure of the costs. Have you looked into camping sites?
